About Me
Hi! I'm a 2026 graduate of the Hussman School of Journalism and Media's yearlong Master's in Journalism program. Out of three specialization tracks, I chose the Public Life Reporting track to hone my reporting skills across a variety of beats and gain more experience editing news stories.
Before graduate school, I attended UNC-Chapel Hill (2x Tar Heel!) and earned a bachelor's degree in English and another in journalism. Reading and writing have been a major part of my life since childhood, so I couldn't imagine myself studying anything else. I am drawn to stories of all kinds and realized I loved telling them in journalism when I was 16. I worked as a freelance writer for The Wake Weekly, a community newspaper in Wake Forest, North Carolina. It was a privilege to serve my community in this way, and those early stories helped shape the journalist I am today. One who embraces challenges, like tackling new topics, and has great respect for the process of producing a story.
For me, journalism has been heavily about discovery, not just about the communities I've reported on, but also for myself. Finding my voice as a writer is a long-term goal I'm working toward. It's one reason I am interested in an editing career -- to help writers see a piece of themselves in every story they write. Journalism is an art. You should have a signature you're proud of :)
“I became a journalist to come as close to the heart of the world as possible.”
